Fall is the perfect time to start a new…unless you like January better

Fall is the perfect time to de-clutter and organize your home so you can enjoy it more when you are cozy as the cooler temperatures roll in. As you go through your closet (or your kids), sort and edit your summer clothing. Ask yourself, “did I wear it? Do I love the way it makes me feel?” If not, get rid of it…. As you refresh your winter clothes (perhaps from bins or another closet) make a list of the clothes, shoes, and accessories you and your family members need for the upcoming season.  It is also a great time to go through the medicine chest and toss expired medicines, lotions and creams.

Fall is also a great time to inventory your seasonal décor. As you pull things out of storage, donate items you no longer like or want out on display. This includes furniture, framed pictures, extra blankets, and knickknacks. If these décor items continue to sit in the basement or attic in boxes/bins or bags, don’t think your kids may want it, most millennials are minimalists.

You want to purge, but feel stuck? Find one larger item in your home that’s weighing you down…or clean out the kitchen junk drawer and let stuff go! Notice how you feel after. You should feel a release. Physical clutter in your surroundings competes for your attention, resulting in decreased performance and increased stress. Slowly increase your progress with fifteen to thirty minutes at a time. After a good purge, arrange your keeper items into zones such as automotive, lawn/garden, kids toys, Clothes etc. Clear your clutter, and you will clear your mind-PROMISE!!
