Clearing in the home is taking the time and working with items, stuff, and deciding what should stay and what doesn’t can be easier if you think “ do I need it, love it or use it?” That is it!   So many times I hear my clients say, “but what if I

I need it later or I don’t want to spend money to buy this again. (disposophobia-fear of getting rid of things) Hiring an organizer is the best way to push through those piles and help to make decisions.  You may want to decide to keep something because you feel very attached to it, but ask yourself if you’re really attached to it or if you’re just responding to the loss or guilt of an object that you may never have used or spent money on. These are never good reasons to justify holding onto an object. Feeling like this only makes you and the ability to purge worse. An organizer can clarify these feelings and help you sift through the piles.

For most of my clients, Purging is what takes 80% of the time during an organizing session. Do not focus on what you can throw away, aim towards clearing the space and giving all items a proper landing spot while sorting. Do not even think of putting items back on the shelves, drawers or closets until you have finished the process of purging that area. I offer 4 - hour sessions because I stand with you and be sure to make a decision on every item. Not only can this be exhausting both mentally and physically, sometimes it is just not that much fun. After the 4 hours you can see results of a clearer space and the fresh feeling it gives you. Most feel a big sense of accomplishment — but there’s more to it than that. Disappointment from not having enough time to take on the entire projector space will leave you frustrated and overwhelmed. Be sure to tackle smaller projects to benefit from the rewards. The rewards are the reason folks continue the process at a later time.

If it the clearing of an entire house, look at what you want to take with you and not what you’ll be throwing away or donating. This approach can be much easier and less taxing on your nervous system.
